Simonik Transportation is a company on the moveliterally and figuratively. It wasn’t long after seeking the advice of the NJSBDC at Rutgers-Camden in March of 2007 that the four partners who formed the moving and warehousing group opened for business this past July. Since then, their moving and storage business has taken off and prospects for continued growth and opportunities look fantastic.
Simonik is a full service domestic and international transportation and warehousing company. They service household goods, high value products, trade show, office and industrial transportation. They also handle distribution services, record storage, as well as self-storage, through a separate division of the company. The new owners acquired the business in 2007, after having worked for the company since at least 2000.
Realizing that their experience alone was not enough to start them down the path of ownership, the foursome contacted Gary Rago and Steve Applebaum, who provided advice pertaining to budgeting, finances, developing a business plan, and requesting the proper line of credit. With that guidance they successfully met many of their major challenges, which included establishing an accounting department, selecting an accounting firm to assist in getting the internal department up and running, and selecting an attorney to handle their asset purchase.
They then moved on to concentrate on the company’s competitive advantage, or what they consider their most distinct or notable selling feature. In their words, it’s the employees! “We employ the most experienced and knowledgeable people that are second to none on our industry. From the first phone call to our company until the very last item has been delivered, our staff is here to assist and provide you with the most successful and stress free moving services available… our drivers and crews are uniformed professionals that will treat your goods as if they were their own.”
Who wouldn’t want to work for a company that gives back and is an active member of the community? The owners find time to support the local fire department, the Girl Scouts, and other notable charities. They’ve also instituted an annual clothing drive to help low-income families. They donate and provide food items and collect new clothing for an annual Christmas drive to benefit the local community. All in a day’s work, and all just more examples of how Simonik helps move mankind from one place to another!
