AUM Events focuses on creating, planning and managing events; this event support company has been in business for over 12 years. Chairman and CEO Jayesh Mehta started the company to serve the growing South-Asian population in the USA and their increasing needs for quality entertainment in professional style. AUM has become a multi-million dollar operation, primarily through acquiring franchises in childcare, media communications and artist management.

Prior to their recent expansion, the Mehtas started with AUM Events Management in Edison and then diversified by opening the My World Child Care Center five years ago in Avenel. The center now employs 17 teachers and staff that focus on preschool, kindergarten, after-before-care, enrichment programs, individualized special needs programs, and more.

The NJSBDC at Rutgers-New Brunswick met up with the Mehtas through the Asian Indian Chamber of Commerce, where Regional Director Elayne McClaine introduced the client to the concept of franchising in 2013. The NJSBDC presented the Mehtas with advice on business expansion opportunities, counseling them on marketing, real estate and finance over the last two years. This year, the Mehtas were invited to attend the International Franchise Expo as NJSBDC’s guests. In this same year they acquired four new franchises: EyeLevel Day Care, TapInto Edison, TapInto Woodbridge and Dancer’s Pointe Dance School.

Eye Level, a premier supplemental education enrichment program, offers an innovative and effective teaching method in an exciting learning environment for children, where self-directed learning, individualized academic coaching, and critical thinking are at the core.

Two online media concerns – TapInto Edison and TapInto Woodbridge – have added eight full-time staff members to the operation.  TapInto is an online media news services with 30 owners reaching over four million readers throughout the state.  AUM owns two, which now employ eight full-time staff members.

Dancers Pointe is a comprehensive performing arts studio offering classes in voice, ballet, lyrical, pointe, hip hop, tap, salsa, break-dance, jazz, musical theater, and zumba for girls and boys. Children can begin classes from ages two through adult. Their business model includes a retail store component.

AUM now has 45 employees. In the past year, these acquisitions alone have expanded the firm’s gross revenue by 25%.  As Mr. Mehta says, “The Middlesex County SBDC helped us obtain information and resources regarding business development, growth and franchising. We have gained assistance in creating a new customer base and markets aligned with our initial strategy of developing our core competencies in the arts and education.”
